News broke tonight about Erik Bedard coming to the Dodgers.

So, a guy who used to be super effective gets a minor league contract with the Dodgers. Bedard will be 36 this season and hasn’t really been above-average for about five years. With Tampa Bay last season, Bedard pitched 75.2 innings in 17 games (15 starts).

The Dodgers risk virtually nothing by signing him to a minor league deal and fans shouldn’t really expect anything in return. I wouldn’t even call Bedard a lottery ticket at this point. He’s simply a guy with experience who gives the club a little more depth.
