Mustangs Ramp-Up Practice, Continue to Ready for Season

At Cal Poly football practice on the first day of full pads, the focus was on getting work done, even if some players were “dinged-up.” I got a chance to take some photos and talk to head coach Tim Walsh afterwards. Walsh seems completely immersed — both in his duties as the defensive backs coach and his role as the head coach.

The energy of all the coaches was probably the lasting image from an outside observer. Walsh also commented about how well-coached the secondary was before he got there as well, which was about as close to a Randy Hanson-related comment as I’ll probably get until any further announcement is made.

While it was hot outside, Walsh said that it was a non-issue since they aren’t allowed to hold “two-a-days” every day.

Overall, the team and everyone around the team seems to be most-excited about the Mustangs joining the Big Sky Conference and what that means nationally.

Walsh also mentioned the scrimmage the Mustangs have planned for next Saturday at Alex G. Spanos Stadium. Start time will be around 11 AM and the Mustangs will run 75-80 plays, according to Walsh.
