Fansmanship Goes to the LFP Softball Tournament

On Saturday, the Fansmanship crew traveled to Big League Dreams in West Covina, site of the Left Field Pavillion Dodgers Blogger Softball Tournament.

Andy, Luke, and Owen want to thank everyone who participated in the tournament.

The event was only second to a pre-2011 Dodgers game for a gathering of passionate Dodgers fans and displays of over-the-top fansmasnship.

In other words, it was all things Blue.

After playing probably the best team in the first round (losing 26-16) and then losing to another REALLY good squad 13-9 in the second game, the Fansmanship team bounced back in the third and final round robin game game. With 12 runs in the top of the first inning, Fansmanship kept from embarrassing ourselves too significantly and held on for the victory.

Thanks to Matt Gaudinier, Jennie Main, and Ciara Johnson, who all woke up before 4am on Saturday morning to drive down South. Thanks to Evan Moffitt and the entire Moffitt/Villalobos/Garay families for rooting everyone on.

The gathering of people who care about the Dodgers was second only to an actual game at Chavez Ravine, and so I want to thank Mike Brown at the LFP and everyone who played or participated. This was really a “True Blue” display of Fansmanship. With the Dodgers ownership situation in so much tumult and shrouded by so much secrecy and perceived back-room dealing still, Dodger fans and bloggers showed up to celebrate all that it means to be a Dodgers fan and share some good times on what turned out to be a beautiful Southern California February day.

While we we did get one win, the Fansmanship team did not make the top-6 teams, and did not advance into the playoff round. We had some tough luck having to play two VERY good teams and so didn’t feel so bad. It also meant that we got home to San Luis Obispo a little earlier than expected. Owen was so pumped he even attended the second half of the Cal Poly basketball game, watching the Mustangs hold-on for a 2-point victory vs. UC Irvine.

What a day.
