In his first home match, first-year head coach Sam Crosson’s volleyball team won their first set and match of the season in a five-set victory over Idaho at Mott Gym. Cal Poly began the season by losing three matches in a row to San Diego, Texas, and LSU at the Texas Tournament. But Thursday night the Mustangs rallied from a 1 set to 0 deficit to take a 2-1 lead. After losing the fourth set, the Mustangs re-established control, taking the fifth 15-9.

Junior southpaw Holly Franks led the Mustangs with 17 kills in the match. Fellow lefty, freshman Maddie Kuber was second on the squad in kills with 15 and also second in assists with 30. Outside hitter Molly Pon added 12 kills.

The Mustangs are now 1-3 on the season and do not play any more non-conference home games. After 8 non-conference away or neutral site matches, and two Big West away matches, Cal Poly will return home September 29 to open the Big West home schedule vs. UCSB. All Big West home matches will start at 7:00 PM.
